More Facts Less Facts

Lobuche West peak lies in the Khumbu Himal Range of the Everest region in Solukhumbu district. Standing tall at 6135 meters, Loubuche west peak is one of the most challenging peaks of the Everest Region. Lobuche West Peak climbing consists of two different summits, viz. Lobuche Peak East and West with heights of 6,119 metres and 6,135 metres respectively. A continuous ridge connects them but there is still a sharp gap and a considerable distance between them. The Lobuche East Peak is recognized as a trekking peak, whereas the West is known as an expedition Peak. Lobuche being an attractive mountain offers various existing routes and also potential new ones. The dark triangle of its rocky East face rises over the moraines of the Khumbu Glacier to a spectacular skyline, forming the south ridge. The peak of Lobuche East is reached by descending a marked notch and climbing steep snowy slopes to the top. On most occasions, the mountain is climbed on the summit ridge only as far as a subsidiary snow summit, southeast of the true peak and before the notch. This peak is identified as the false peak. Lobuche West was first climbed in 1955 via the South Shoulder.

The Lobuche West peak is more challenging and technical than the Lobuche East. The Lobuche West is also taller than its eastern cousin. earlier, only Lobuche East was allowed for trekkers, the Western peak required expedition permit. The sharp ridged and snow areas of the mountain require the climbers to be roped and use crampons and ice axe. Starting the journey from Lukla, we follow the Everest base camp trekking trail to reach the Lobuche West peak base and set up a camp for upcoming summit.
